Student’s work wins third-place finish in ABA contest

University of Tennessee College of Law student Matthew Holman’s work has placed third in a national essay contest sponsored by the American Bar Association. The American Bar Association’s family law section annually hosts the Howard C. Schwab Memorial Essay Contest to promote interest and scholarship in family law.

Kuney receives award for transactional law teaching skills

College of Law Professor George Kuney has been named the 2021 Tina L. Stark Award winner for excellence in teaching transactional law and skills.   The award, established by Emory Law School and presented at its biennial Transactional Law and Practice Conference, is named for the founding director of the school’s Center for Transactional Law and Practice.

Professor selected as UT Research Development Academy scholar

College of Law Professor Sherley Cruz has been selected as a 2021-2022 University of Tennessee Research Development Academy scholar. The university’s offices of Equity and Diversity and Research and Engagement offer the Research Development Academy program to faculty who self-identify as underrepresented by virtue of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or other factors.

Tennessee Governor appoints alumnus Chancery Court judge

A University of Tennessee College of Law alumnus has received a judicial appointment to serve on the 30th Judicial District Chancery Court.  Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee announced on Friday his selection of Gadson William “Will” Perry to serve Shelby County. Perry will fill Chancellor Walter L. Evans’ vacancy, effective immediately.

Institute for Professional Leadership names Kostas 2021-22 student fellow

Third-year law student Stefan Kostas has been named the University of Tennessee College of Law’s Hardwick Fellowship recipient for 2021-2022. Kostas will work closely with the Institute for Professional Leadership providing research and communication support for the institute’s curricular offerings and community engagement.
