For someone who uses a wheelchair, life can be limited to staring at the walls of their home.  Leaving the house, affording a vehicle, having an adapted car they can drive or even having the ability to access public transportation can be an insurmountable obstacle.

College hosts annual Connecting the Threads business transactions conference

The fifth annual “Business Transactions: Connecting the Threads” event will take place at the College of Law on Sept. 24.  This one-day program will be offered virtually via Zoom, and lawyers will hear from business law professors from the Business Law Prof Blog who are currently teaching at various schools across the United States.

Student’s work wins third-place finish in ABA contest

University of Tennessee College of Law student Matthew Holman’s work has placed third in a national essay contest sponsored by the American Bar Association. The American Bar Association’s family law section annually hosts the Howard C. Schwab Memorial Essay Contest to promote interest and scholarship in family law.

Law Library exhibit to highlight history of 19th Amendment

The Joel A. Katz Law Library in the College of Law will host “100 Years After the 19th Amendment: Their Legacy, and Our Future,” a traveling exhibit that honors the women’s suffrage movement. The exhibit is a project of the American Bar Association in conjunction with the Library of Congress.

Kuney receives award for transactional law teaching skills

College of Law Professor George Kuney has been named the 2021 Tina L. Stark Award winner for excellence in teaching transactional law and skills.   The award, established by Emory Law School and presented at its biennial Transactional Law and Practice Conference, is named for the founding director of the school’s Center for Transactional Law and Practice.

Professor selected as UT Research Development Academy scholar

College of Law Professor Sherley Cruz has been selected as a 2021-2022 University of Tennessee Research Development Academy scholar. The university’s offices of Equity and Diversity and Research and Engagement offer the Research Development Academy program to faculty who self-identify as underrepresented by virtue of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or other factors.
