Joan Heminway Named Director of Winston Law’s Clayton Center

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Winston College of Law has announced the appointment of Joan Heminway as director of the Clayton Center for Entrepreneurial Law, effective August 1. Heminway, Rick Rose Distinguished Professor of Law, joined the Winston Law faculty in 2000 and has been closely involved with the center’s growth and success.

The University of Tennessee College of Law’s Institute for Professional Leadership has been recognized for “leading the way in educational innovations.” The Institute for Professional Leadership is one of only eight U.S. law school programs honored by Bloomberg Law’s Law School Innovation Program as a top-scoring innovative legal education program in student development.

College of Law names two students Hardwick Fellows for 2022-2023

Third-year law students Sarah Beth Cain and Alexander Wright have been named 2022-23 Hardwick Fellows for the University of Tennessee College of Law’s Institute for Professional Leadership. The students will play an important role supporting the institute’s curricular offerings and aiding in educational, research and outreach efforts.

College of Law to host Connecting the Threads business transactions conference

The one-day symposium features prominent business law professors from across the country – as well as invited guests and University of Tennessee professors and students – discussing topical business law issues.

Institute for Professional Leadership names Kostas 2021-22 student fellow

Third-year law student Stefan Kostas has been named the University of Tennessee College of Law’s Hardwick Fellowship recipient for 2021-2022. Kostas will work closely with the Institute for Professional Leadership providing research and communication support for the institute’s curricular offerings and community engagement.

Professor Brad Areheart’s work on organizational justice was recently featured in Forbes.  In the article, “Can We Trust Corporate Commitments to Racial Equity?,” UNC law professor Ifeoma Ajunwa referenced Areheart’s article “Organizational Justice and Antidiscrimination,” published in the Minnesota Law Review in 2020. Professor Ben Barton was the kickoff speaker for the Stanford Legal Tech and the Future of Civil Justice conference.

Heminway to serve as academic fellow for Initiative on Quality Shareholders

Professor Joan Heminway has been selected to serve as an academic fellow with George Washington University’s Center for Law, Economics and Finance. As an academic fellow, Heminway will work with the center’s Initiative on Quality Shareholders to research and report on financial investment.

Law Women organization honored for fundraising efforts

During a virtual ceremony this week, the Law Women student organization was honored from among 56 nominees as an outstanding graduate student organization.
